Centre d’exposition L’Imagier

Type of project : New Construction

Year of construction : 2019

City : Gatineau – Secteur Aylmer (Québec)

The perfect example of a building concept respecting the architectural lines of a heritage sector. Founded in 1975, Le Centre d’Exposition L’Imagier is subsidized by the city of Gatineau and the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications. The old building, which had become obsolete and no longer met the needs, has lived a complete transformation, starting by the demolishment of the existing building. Located at 9 Front Street in the Old Aylmer sector, the new exposition center building also needed to harmonize with the neighborhood. The Lapalme Rheault + acsl architectes et associés firm concept, shows well the inclusion of the cultural heritage in the new construction, using lines and repeating the architecture of the street buildings namely, the Charles-Symmes Inn and the particular style of the matchstick houses named by their slim lines’ façade. The architect favored consisting materials such as stone, pine and cedar wood, and aluminum. Meticulous work was done by CAMA Industries namely, the complete project management, the demolition and the construction of the new 255 SQM building. On the main floor you will find a welcoming hall, a large exposition room and an office. In the basement a large workshop, a kitchen and more offices. The installation of certain materials needed excellent workmanship, particularly for the atrium continuation of the pine and cedar wood from the interior and to the exterior, for the structural wood beams, aluminum 3R tiles, Swiss Pearl Tiles, and for only naming a few. In addition to specific lightening and an adequate ventilation system for works of art expositions, a giant projection screen was integrated at the back of the building facing le Parc de l’imaginaire.

Working with CAMA for the reconstruction of L'Imagier was a real pleasure for us: competent people who know how to fulfill our requirements - as everyone will see when you visit!
